As I start the first week of the unoffical summer season, I am prediciting that tapeless or filebased workflows are going to be on everyone's radar this year. I start the season perfecting the filebased acquisition and workflow for a big sporting event that is starting this week in Miami.
I have been contacted by no less than 6 productions that are moving to filebased connectivity for the very first time, and in every instance, those productions are all moving in that way solely because of the Tsunami destroying the HDCamSR tape facility that has been the backbone format for episodic and theatrical production in the US.
A quiet note on workflow.
Handle your data is like water, if you do not define where it can travel and how fast to move it, it will go where ever it wants leaving a wake of devastation in it's path. If you plan properly the where, how and the way that data is handled, most of your problems will be minor.
Ignore those basic rules and the torrent of data both on the camera or in post it will dislodge your senses, disrupt your routines and devastate your project.
