You Are What You Eat

There is indeed a Food category here on the blog, so by golly I will make a food post.

If I am what I eat, then most days I consist of dark roast coffee, oat bran, a breaded turkey cutlet and not as much water as I should be having.

Indeed, the diet and exercise regimen of a video editor can be less than ideal.

Best case scenario:

Sunday evening I bread and cook enough turkey cutlets for the week, along with a pot of macaroni or multigrain rice with vegetable. This is then served to 4 or five plates, shrink wrapped, and stored in the fridge, so that I have lunch each day. This does not happen every week.

Worst case scenario:

When I fail to plan for lunch, I find myself eating a combination of Odwalla Bars and not much else. Our office is strategically located within walking distance of a Chinese, a Pizza place, a mediocre diner and a pastry shop. A five to seven minute walk delivers a Shell gas station, with its fully stocked junk food section, however in the past few years I have lost my taste for most packaged junk food. A short drive presents a local grocery store and several decent sandwich shop.

Breakfast on a good day is a bowl of hot cereal with fresh fruit and honey. Other non-good days include bread and butter, coffee or nothing. Nothing is bad for the rest of the day.

Dinner is the least important meal to actually eat, but one which I have time to cook almost every night.

Here's a simple light meal or appetizer for warm weather - tomatoes, mozzarella, fresh basil and a splash of Peter Luger's steak sauce.

On vacation especially do I enjoy cooking. So I present to you this brief video from my 2008 Cape Cod vacation. It's not exactly Food Network material, but it was fun to make, and by golly, fun is almost as important as eating!

Thanks for tasting.

Mike
