Before I begin my foray into the world of blogging I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to Ron & Tim for their efforts in getting me situated with the Cow. I look forward to the many blogs ahead and hope that some of you may find the information at least useful, and at best challenging.
Although I have a fairly broad portfolio in the areas I write about, and areas researched, I believe that there are always some common factors or themes that run throughout the electronics, entertainment, tech, legal and economic communities - and the way in which those topics interact with one another makes for interesting reading (or so I hope). It is this set of "convergence" issues that I will tackle in the days and months ahead.
Please always feel free to contact me and I look forward to our time ahead.
I'll say what Peter won't :-)
First, we're delighted to have Peter as part of The COW family. He wrote a terrific, thought-provoking article for the March-April issue of The COW magazine on the changing nature of HD production, mini-media, HD DVD/Blu-ray and much more.
(It's really great stuff. If you're not getting The COW mag, go here for your free subscription. You'll also get a link to PDFs of past issues.)
He's not just making it up either. His experience includes such diverse areas as theoretical physics, defense, aerospace, optics, IT, law, and much, much more. He's written and spoken on legal issues around consumer electronics and home entertainment, DRM, intellectual property and the future of media formats...and, again, much, much more.
He also started a blog site last December, focused on the rise of a technologically sophisticated economic and political class. All the more reason we're flattered that he can join us here now and again.
I hope you'll take a moment to read some of the details of Peter's background and work here. A press release for just one of his current ventures was also recently posted at The COW.
He's also a genuinely humble guy, which is why he didn't tell you any of this himself. We're all going to have a lot of fun together.
Thanks for joining us, Peter!
