It's so easy to sensationalize an agenda, and it always happens this time of year--after all, millions of turkeys die for Thanksgiving every year.
My grandparents were farmers. I spent summers there, and my grandmother and grandfather treated their animals well. And then, when it was time, they killed and ate them. It's just the way it is... they were very poor and if they couldn't eat what they raised or hunted, they would have starved.
I'm sure turkeys and chickens feel pain and they should certainly be treated humanely. But they are essentially manufactured animals--modern chickens and turkeys bear little resemblance to their natural ancestors (we have wild turkeys all over the place here in NY).
It's a big circle of life out there. After all, if God didn't want us to eat animals, why did He make them out of meat?
Relating this picture to the media - today on NPR they did a piece about the processing of turkeys. 7 Minutes from clucking bird to supermarket-ready product. The reporter covered each major step of the process including SOT. The report would have been ok, however the addition of the THWACKK sound makes you not want to eat another animal again.
That being said, if you eat animals, you need to at least acknowledge that they don't waddle from the farm to your oven automatically. It's just something most people don't think about. I say, shame on NPR for taking the PETA approach to Thanksgiving.

PS - nice photoshop work - maybe TIME should hire you - their photoshop cover of Obama as FDR is pretty bad.
I hope Kathlyn isn't preparing this bird for Thanksgiving tomorrow.
Please tell me this is not a snapshot of the bird you raised for this year's celebration, Brian. I swear this is a turkey from The Isand of Dr. Moreau.
A Happy Thanksgiving to you, as well. And to all of the team there at Total Training.
