| | | | Hey Cows,
Part of my work area at the ranch the past 2 years has been a miserable little "cubical" which is more just a corner of a shared office with a counter, a few drawers, chair and computer. I suppose that's all I really need, but it was hard going to that from my own walled office for 8 years. This happened due to local expansion and a lot of things were simply rearranged inside the barn here for more livestock. So, that's a good thing.
Inspired by all the cool personal photos Mike Cohen posts, thought I'd share a photo of this with you. I was getting real tired of the drab grey cubie short walls. Did I mention I paint?

Have a happy and creative day,

Hello there!
Well, here's yet another attempt at a blog. Thought it might be fun to keep a few notes here and "tell the world" what I'm up to on the job. I've started and ended many blogs before (not here however), so we'll see...
Some background about me. I started in Video Production in 1982 with an internship in college. I've worked at an independent TV station in Master Control and Production where I TD'ed the local news show.
Since then, I've been here at Fox 47 in Madison, Wisconsin, since May, 1991. Worked MC four years here before coming into the Production Dept. which was the plan the whole time.
Since March, 1999, I've been a Producer/Director/Editor where I create commercials, show segments, and any other video our clients want sometimes from concept to completion, or various points in between.
Currently, I edit on an Avid MC Adrenaline here, and have since summer, 2005. Before that, I used an Avid Xpress. I also cut on Premiere and use After Effects from time to time here as we've had the Adobe Production Suite, including keeping up with the upgrades, since 2006. At home, I use Sony Vegas for my "home movies" and side productions. Thinking about also getting a FCP at home.
We now shoot on a Panasonic P2 camera and a lightweight fluid head tripod which makes shooting many times nicer from the old days of the Betacam and heavy tripods.
Of course, I'm also in Photoshop nearly every day. Been with that since '95 when we had version 3. We've also kept that program up to date here.
Most of the workload is commercials for local businesses. Some of the places we get to go are quite interesting, particularly having the opportunity to see what other people's jobs are.
I'm going to attempt to keep my entries here brief and to the point, giving you some insights of life inside a U.S. medium market TV station's production department.
Today:
Working on tutorials and this blog!
Shooting a retirement home tomorrow in Evansville for an upcoming local show on senior living.
