So much fuss over the Canon5DmkII, so I thought I'd post some examples

All,

If you've been following the FCP forum on here you might have seen a fairly heated debate over the Canon5DmkII
http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1060351

A guy who has been in television long enough to know better said:

Because there are those out there operating under the delusion that it's an actual and proper TV production tool. There are some fools who actually think they can use it and it alone, that's why.

It's a TV toy.

So I thought I'd post some notable examples of 5D work I've found and let everybody out there make the call.
The clips look great in HD if you open them on their own pages.

The Canon5DmkII is truly amazing - Here is a broadcast example.

I had the Canon5DmkII for a while and although I had shot a few tests, I hadn't really made anything that I could post properly.

As you might know, I edit for BBC & IMG on the coverage of the Snooker & Darts here in the UK and thought this would be an ideal opportunity to give the Canon a good outing.

I have to say I was amazed at the results. Colin Nuttall who is one of the best cameramen I work with got some amazing shots. Gorden Lugrin assisted and Jason Woodward held it all together by directing. All edited in FCP, I used some custom droplets to convert the 5D files into PAL land.

Here is the Opener that aired at 8pm on the Sunday of the final on BBC2. View on Vimeo for full HD version.

First post - I'm not going to IBC this year unfortunately

This is my first post on here. I've been a forum poster & later moderator since March 2003 and although I've clocked up nearly 2000 posts, I'm still a long way behind Walter. The good news is that I thought I'd start a blog here on the Cow. Although I have my own web pages, I can actually post here more quickly and in this rapidly changing world of television & computers, speed is good.

Now the bad news, well in a way. I'm not going to IBC this year. Having been to every show for over 10 years and even going when it was held in Brighton, I shall miss the trip.

Do I think exhibitions have lost their power due to the Internet? Yes.

Do I think it is getting harder to justify the cost of the trip on a ROI basis? Yes.

Is that why I am not going? No.

The reason why I'm not going is my baby daughter is due to be born on the opening day. Yes the nine month render is near the end and it makes you realise that life is more important than a bit of telly or telly equipment even.

OK, that's enough of the family stuff, next blog will be hard core FCP, erm, stuff.

Peter

ps Let me know what goes on in Amsterdam this year. Last year Niclas Bahn and I were on a houseboat for a week and easily had the best accommodation story by a nautical mile.
